Not much on TV at 6 AM
I have archived the Ajacks’ Help List on Yahoo. You can download it at:
http://wb9otx.com/blog/Ajacks_Help_List_Yahoo.zip
It is in zip (compressed) format so you will have to unzip (un-compress) the file to view it. It is small, only about 61K.
The Yahoo group’s mail list served me very well and I would recommend it to anyone that needs to reach a large amount of people at one time. I will delete the list very soon as I have went to this Blog.
Not much new today, but it is only 6 AM. I sold a computer yesterday. I set it up here at home before I delivered it and it worked perfect. It was moved to another home from where I delivered it, only about 2 miles, the phone rang about one hour later. Yep you guessed it, “it don’t work” . I drove to the peoples home thinking they just didn’t know how to hook it up. I seen the monitor setting on the kitchen table when I walked in and I could see “No Video Sync” on the screen. This mint a major malfunction. I checked the video cable and it was in the correct plug and tight. I wiggled, shook, and then under my breath said some bad words. I opened the case but I could see anything wrong. I took out the video card and give it a blow, put t back in without the screw, hit the power button and the beast booted, but in the safe mode. I shut it down and put the screw back in. I then hit the power button and it booted up normal. I shut it off and put the screws back in the case and turned it on again. It was fixed. It was as simple as that. What caused this?, I don’t have a clue other than it shook loose while moving it from one house to the other. They ask,” what was wrong with it”, I said it just had a headache. This is my standard answer when I don’t know. I told the new owners good luck with the computer and made a quick exit.
End of story. Why did I tell you about my bad luck, so you can fix your computer if this happens to you. Wiggle, shake, and give it three sharp whacks before you call the repair man.
One more tip before I close. Put your driver disks in a zip lock bag and tape it inside the case of your computer. The repair man will love you when he finds your zip lock bag.
