I just can't wait

I hate delays because I have no patience. (none) There is a built in delay from the time your cursor rests on programs (in your start menu) until it displays the contents. If you hate to wait, perform this simple reg tweak. If you have never edited the registry, Don't try this, get someone to help you, as it can be dangerous to your computer's health. If you screw up, your machine will never boot again. You have been warned !

- This tweak is for Windows XP only, Sorry 98 users -
- Melinium users should just commit suicide -

As always, perform a backup first.

Go to 'Start' > 'Run' > type 'regedit' (without the quotes)

navigate to the following registry key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop.

Right-click the MenuShowDelay option and click Modify.

The default value is 400. You can reduce it to as low as 0. This registry option controls how quickly your Start Menu shoots out. I keep mine at zero, but I'm in a hurry, 100 is a comprmise.

Close the reg editor > your done

DSL in Versailles Indiana (finally)

Yes, Versailles has stepped out of the Internet Stone Age. This means for a few of you very good luck has come. If you lived just out of reach of the cable TV lines and could not get broadband, you may be able to have DSL broadband through Verizon Telephone Co. The cost of DSL is slightly less but the speed is slightly less compared to Suscom Cable Service. If you are on a dial-up Internet service you are missing the boat. Look into Cable or DSL to see if you can obtain it where you live.

No Nursing Home for me

There will be no nursing home in my future . . . When I get old and feeble,
I am going to get on a Princess Cruise Ship.
The average cost for a nursing home is $200 per day. I have checked on
reservations at Princess and I can get a long term discount and senior
discount price of $135 per day. That leaves $65 a day for:
1. Gratuities which will be only be $10 per day.
2. I will have as many as 10 meals a day if I can waddle to the restaurant,
or I can have room service (which means I can have breakfast in bed every
day of the week).
3. Princess has as many as three swimming pools, a workout room, free
washers and dryers and shows every night.
4. They have free toothpaste and razors, and free soap and shampoo.
5. They will even treat you like a customer, not a patient. An extra $5
worth of tips will have the entire staff scrambling to help you.
6. You get to meet new people every 7 or 14 days.
7. TV broken? Light bulb need changing? Need to have the mattress
replaced? No problem! They will fix everything and apologize for your
inconvenience.
8. Clean sheets and towels every day, and you don't even have to ask for
them.
9. If you fall in the nursing home and break a hip, you are on Medicare.
If you fall and break a hip on a Princess Ship, they will upgrade you to a
suite for the rest of your life.
Now hold on for the best! Do you want to see South America, the Panama
Canal, Tahiti, Australia, New Zealand, Asia, or name where you want to go?
Princess will have a ship ready to go.
So don't look for me in a nursing home, just call shore to ship.
PS: If you die, they just dump you over the side, at no charge.

Attack of the Dust Bunnies

When someone brings me a computer to fix it always gets a cleaning before it leaves.
Most times they are filthy dirty. This doesn’t mean your home is dirty or dusty, it just means you need to carefully schedule your machine for a wash job. Computers that set on the floor seem to get the dirt sucked in the fastest. If its on a desk they seem to stay a little cleaner.
Dirt / dust will gather on heat sinks and fans and this will cause overheating of components and this means trouble. Here is a page you should read before you tackle the dust bunnies.
