Ad-Aware SE

Ad-Aware introduced a new version this week as well. Ad-Aware SE replaces 6.0 and adds a better detection engine, as well as a different interface. The new detection engine looks pretty slick, not to mention it’s more sensitive to “ET phone home” type software and cookies. Un-install 6.0 before you install the SE version.

Do I still need MS Works ?

Q.Do I need Microsoft Works now that I have Microsoft Office on my computer ?

A.You should un-install Microsoft Works from your computer, as you will not be using it now that you have 'Office'. By the way, 'Office' is the standard out in the real world. It is good that you are learning to use it. Works is a give away program that comes with most new computers and although it is sufficient for most home users, no company ( that I know of ) accepts files created with it. Don't waste your time creating a resume with Works, as the company you are applying to will most likely not be able to read it when received, it will just be just another victim of the delete key. It will join all of the big white deleted files in the sky.

There was a friend of mine, Alan Smith, that wrote a book called "Tales of Versailles". He used Works to compose it. When finished he mailed the files and photos to a publisher in Chicago. The publisher sent it back to him saying "We do not except Works files, please resubmit the files in Microsoft Word format". He (the writer) was at a loss as he had worked over a year on this book tidal. He called me asking what to do. You know what happened, I spent the better part of a month at 2 to 6 hours a day converting the files from MS Works to MS Word format. There is no easy way to retain formatting in the conversion process. Most pages with photos had to be done over from scratch, and most of the pages had photos.

My pay for my many hours of work was a 'thank you' byline in the front of the book, also a free signed copy. I was glad to do the conversion as if he had to pay a company to do this for him there would have been no book.

I do not know of a business that would take on such a job and if you did find one the cost of labor would blow your hat in the creek. $$$$$$$$$

To end, "never use Works for anything in the real business world".

Works, Office, and Word are known trademarks of the Microsoft corp.
