Shutdown one click

Q. You had how to make a one click shutdown icon a few weeks back, can you repeat it again ?

A. You could have looked in the archive list on the left and found it there. Here it is again;

Right click on the desktop
Click ‘New’
Click ‘Shortcut’
Copy and paste or type the below line exactly into the path box
%windir%\System32\SHUTDOWN.exe -s -t 01
Click ‘Next’
Click ‘Finished’
You now have the shutdown icon on your desktop. You can rename or change the icon if you wish. Try this, you can just walk away after you click. If you don't like it, just delete it.

DailyFoto

Daily Foto Web Page

If you have visited the page in the last week you would have seen that it might come to an end very soon. There are a few reasons for making this decision. Number one on the list is it ties me down too tight. The code has to be changed slightly each night. I can’t believe that I have not missed a change in the past year, this means I have not been away overnight for one full year. That is not going to be the case next year.

There could be a script written and I have looked at a few but have never found one that worked very well. I could have had a friend look after the page for a day or two, but I only have a few friends and they do not know HTML.

Another reason near the top of the list is participation from the viewers of the page. You see the idea was to have people send their photos to be featured on the DailyFoto page. Yes I know you sent some photos, but there was never enough to have one new one each day. This meant I had to come up with photos that I had taken or be a crook by steeling them from other Web pages. DailFoto had over 300 page views per week but very few ever sent in a picture. Everyone has a digital camera or a scanner but no one uses him or hers I guess.

Another reason for the shut down is complaints received.
Seems as tho you can't please'm all:

The music is too loud.
I don’t like the song ‘Last Date’, why don’t you play …..
Why don’t you have a new song every day?
Please remove the music.
Please put the music back on, I love that song.
I loved ‘Last Date’ why did you remove it?
The page loads too slowly, can you fix it?
Could you have 800 by 600 images so I could use them for wallpaper?
640 by 480 is too small, could you make them 1024 by 768 ?
The pictures are too big, can you make them smaller?
Why don’t you have thumbnail images for the archives ?
I don't like the banner at the top - depressing
Could you add my web page to the links, here is the URL .......

This is only a few that I received. I must tell you I had to laugh when I received email in the same day wanting the opposite things. (too small – too big)

Another reason is cost of storage and up keep. My sponsor helped some but it was only a fraction of the total. I was expecting about 1,000 page views per week, but it just did not happen. Why, I do not know or I would have fixed it.

I still think this was a good idea and it can work. If you want to give it a try please let me know. I will give you the domain for free and whish you the best.

SP2 Firewall

I am making a correction to this post because I jumped the gun on it. There is a way to open a port with the new SP2 installed firewall. I just did not look for the way to do it hard enough. Thank you Google.

I have found there is no way to allow or disallow traffic on my network with the firewall that installs with SP2. I have turned it off and went back to my old firewall by the Sygate company. I have installed SP2 on all of my computers and have had no problems at all with compatibility issues. I like some of the things that are new with it, The pop-up blocker seems to work nice and the no display of pictures in outlook express is a very nice feature. There are lots of little warning boxes that don’t mean much to me, but I’m sure it is helpful to the novice. All and all I think it is well worth the install. I orderd a SP2 CD from Microsoft and it arrived in about a week, very good service.

Backup Backup then backup

OEBackup v2.9.0.3
OE Backup is maintains Outlook Express message archives and registry entries. The developer acknowledges that its appearance isn't pretty, but it does the job--and the price is right.
