A Web Page - Whats it take
It is 8:20 PM, I started creating a very simple Web Page at 4:30. I had a rough draft in about an hour, but the fine tuning was the hardest part. The page has a very simple Java applet and is hosted on a sub-domain. I also had to deal with a shared IP address. The URL has to have the WWW in the address, why ?, I haven’t the faintest idea as I have not seen this before with the hosting company I use. I also had to change the links of two other pages that will be pointing to this new page. This is a Web Cam page and the new camera has to be programmed and mounted in its permanent location. Power supply wire will have to be soldered and spliced. Cat 5 wire must also be ran from the camera to the switch / router. So you see I’m only about half finished. Is it worth it? The only way to tell is to look at the page view counter after it has been on the Web for a week or two.
The cost is unbelievable to do a project like this. The camera alone is over $600.00. Then you have the domain name and hosting costs. The wire and weatherproof cover are expensive too. I’m glad I can code the page myself or I would have to pay a HTML company for their time.
The next time you see a very good-looking page on the net, stop and think just what it took to construct such a page. By the way look at the Versailles Web Cam page at:
http://www.webcam.wb9otx.com/
If it gets a fair amount of hits I will change the domain name to a more easily one to remember. (more money) I hope you like it.
