Memorial Day

So here we are again, Memorial Day, or as it was called a few years ago, Decoration Day. As a kid I remember my mother gathering the flowers from our garden and yard to take to the graveyards. I never gave it much thought then, but at the age of almost sixty, I think it is one of the most important days of the year. My father served in WW1, my brother died defending our freedom at Normandy in WW2, My daughter served during Desert Storm, and I also served in Viet Nam. We the living must remember this holiday as not just the Indy 500, State Park pool opening, or whatever. The solders that gave their lives to preserve our freedoms must be remembered. There would be no 500 or pool if not for these dedicated heroes.

If you want to attend an event that will lift your heart, but bring a tear to your eye, please attend the Memorial Services at Cliff Hill Cemetery in Versailles. Ten AM Monday May 30th. Once you attend you will know that this day is sacred.
