Outlook Express "import"
Q:
I've had a hard drive to go south and finally had some people recover
most of what was on it. (unexplained problems when it wouldn't boot
up). They were able to recover most or all of my old email from
Outlook Express along with the email addresses. My question is how can
I access the email and addresses they recovered from my old hard
drive. I purchased a new computer and use Outlook Express on my new
system but can't figure out how to access the old stuff (same Outlook
Express). Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
A:
What you need to do is "import" the saved data into your current
Outlook Express (OE) profile. To do this, open OE and click on file
then import - messages. Choose OE 6 in the next window, and then click
"main identity" in the next window. The next window will contain a
path statement. You must click the browse button and point the
statement to look at the location where your saved data is located.
This data cannot be on a CD, so copy it to the computer's hard drive
(if necessary). Follow the next couple of windows and you'll see your
data import into your current profile.
The process to import your address book is very similar. Just
follow the windows and point the path statement to wherever your
address book is located. Again, it cannot be on a CD.
