Up Up & Away

I have a good start on my new antenna farm. The tower, rotor, and a small 4 element 2 meter FM antenna is up now. Soon to be added will be the monster 17 element 2 meter SSB Yagi beam. It has a 28 foot boom, so it will be a wopper. I'll post another photo when its all up, I can't wait. Thanks to my neighbor Ralph for the design & construction of the tilt-over base plate. By the way my grid square is EM79, so listen for WB9OTX.

The War is Heating Up

GOOGLE, the internet search king, has teamed with veteran Microsoft-hater Sun Microsystems to wrest control of the personal computer from Bill Gates's software colossus.

The companies announced a deal under which they will allow web users free spreadsheet and word-processing software online.
And now "for the rest of the story"

Get FireFox

A friend called today to ask if I could look at his computer. He said some of the links he was clicking on would not open as they did in the past. I looked at the settings and found all to be OK. I fiddled with Internet Explorer (IE) till I was flusterd to the limit. I finally went to GetFireFox.com , downloaded it then done the install. Clicked the Fire Fox icon and imported the settings from IE. Wal-la all was fixed. So the morrow to this story is if you can't fix it, replace it. I feel Fire Fox is a better browser anyway. I left my friend happy as a lark.

Blue Hippo - beware

Blue Hippo is a company that sells computers to anyone with a bank account. From all I can gather from reports on this company including the BBB "stay away from this company", avoid them like the plague.

Acronyms

Find out what those acronyms and abbreviations stand for...

Is a Web Page really there if no one views it ?
Ripley County Dot Net

I did a photo DVD presentation last evening for a 50th wedding celebration and it just came out wonderful. I scanned 55 pictures then imported them to "Picture to TV", a very simple to use program. The music was "Message in a bottle" and "In the mood", both very nice instrumentals.
I made a VCD then copied it to DVD to make it more compatible with older set-top DVD players.

I was going to include the link to "Picture to TV" for you but I cant find it. I think it has been bought by another company. At any rate there are lots of slide show programs, just do a Google search and you will find them.

It's been a long time

Its been a long dry spell sense my last post to the Blog. Some of the people that were making my life miserable has slaked up some, but there are a select few that still bug me to the limit. I just try to not let it bother me.

You know I'm a Ham and we need big antennas, but may be this one is too big. I hope to get it in the air very soon. Those tower sections are 10 foot each and the antenna is almost 30 foot long. It is used for 144 Mhz. SSB. The antenna at the very top is a 4 element vertical Yagi beam for FM. I'll post another photo when its up and flying.

Here is a free program that I gave a try and found to be just great. It is called "Photofiltre" and you can download it here:

http://www.snapfiles.com/get/photofiltre.html

It is a photo editor that is almost as good as Paint Shop Pro but forget the $100 price tag because it's free. I have it loaded on my laptop just to enhance and do minor editing for photos I email. It's great for resizing for the dial-up users.

Try it - you'll like it !
